Repton head salutes pupils’ ‘resilience and hard work’

The headmaster of Repton School has paid tribute to pupils who achieved success in their A levels.

The school is celebrating its A Level and BTEC results with nearly 40% of entries being awarded an A\ *or A grade, and 70% A* to B.

As a result of these achievements, a significant number of Reptonians have secured their first-choice place at prestigious Russell Group universities.

Fifteen pupils achieved straight A*s and As, with Gonazlo Mugarra, Harry Stone, Florence Thomas, Michael Williamson, Joseph Jenkinson and Daniel Kennedy achieving a clean sweep of the top grades.

Harry also represented Great Britain U21’s at hockey while at Repton School and Daniel was a member of Repton’s elite swimming programme, competing internationally.

Repton pupils continue to win entry to the best Ivy League colleges in the US, with Martha Broderick, Ella Bowman and Ottilie Sykes winning places at Cornell, Dartmouth and Princeton respectively.

They are all elite hockey players, with Ottilie representing England U21s and participating in the GB Elite Development Programme.

Headmaster Mark Semmence said: “We are ambitious for every one of our pupils and it is fantastic to be able to recognise their success on results day.

“For this cohort, they have endured unprecedented circumstances having missed out on their GCSE public examinations due to the pandemic.

“So, it is a testament to their resilience and hard work in addition to the dedication and commitment of Repton’s teaching and examination staff that our pupils have achieved the results that will allow them to fulfil their aspirations beyond Repton.”
