Leisure centre plan’s £1.9m funding boost
Plans to develop a new leisure facilities in a Derbyshire town have received a £1.9 million funding boost.
North East Derbyshire District Council has secured the cash from Sport England as part of the development of the new Clay Cross Active Leisure Centre.
The new facility will replace the current sports centre at Sharley Park and will boast a range of sport, wellness and community assets.
The facility is set to open in the winter of 2024 and is part of the wider Clay Cross Town Deal regeneration and developments, which will transform the town.
Councillor Kathy Rouse, the district council’s cabinet member for health and leisure, said: “We are genuinely delighted to have Sport England on board as a partner and are grateful for their funding contribution to help deliver this fantastic project.
“Their support and expertise have ensured the new centre meets the needs of the community and includes learning from other new build leisure centres from across the country.”
