Show must go on(line)
Bondholder Darley Dance Productions, the organiser of ‘The Christmas Show’, has launched a £10k Crowdfunder.
The fundraising initiative is a last hope to enable the company to put on its annual festive production this December.
The pandemic has meant that Darley Dance Productions, a business that provides professional dancers and entertainers to appear at events, has had all its work cancelled since March. This has not only put a strain on those that run the business, but also the dozens of freelance professional performers the company works with.
The Christmas Show has been enjoyed by hundreds of local people since it began in 2018. It sees a cast of professional dancers and singers perform in an original festive variety show, bringing fun for the whole family. The show usually tours around different Derbyshire venues, including Melbourne Assembly Rooms and St Nick’s Church Hall in Allestree.
This year though, the show will be shot professionally – adhering to the government’s advice – and then sent out online for people to watch virtually, but only if the whole £10,000 is raised. If the entire sum is not raised by bonfire night, then everyone who donated will be refunded and the show will not go ahead.
Abbi Burns, Founder and Owner of Darley Dance Productions said: “We really hope that the public support us in raising this much-needed £10,000. Even the smallest donations add up and are so much appreciated by us.
“We want to bring joy to families this year through The Christmas Show Online and allow families to stay safe and enjoy it at home, but that will only be possible if the full £10,000 is raised.
“It’s also really important that we think of the freelance performers in these times who we use in our shows and events and who have been out of work for the last six months. By putting on our annual show, we’d be able to provide payment to our fantastic cast, something which we feel really passionately about”.
