Business processes firm Document Network Services is urging companies to prepare for the switch-off of analogue lines.

From 2025, analogue lines will be turned off, rendering the communication systems of some businesses redundant.

According to DNS, which is based at Pride Park, businesses who will be impacted should start putting the wheels in motion in terms of upgrading their systems.

Analogue lines were once the standard way of providing a telephone service before the advent of digital communication technology, such as VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol).

Digital communication technology is considered more cost-effective than analogue lines and have a much wider range of features that benefit businesses.

For example, VOIP allows for more flexibility and mobility – allowing employees to make and receive work calls on the move or from home.

But it will not just be telephone lines which will be affected by the switch-off.

Any system that is still hardwired with landlines to enable them to work will be affected.

This could include, door entry systems, lifts, streetlights, CCTV, alarms, payment systems and more.

Hugh Sutherland, sales director at DNS, said: “Transitioning from analogue lines to VOIP is a leap into the future, offering cost savings, flexibility, and enhanced communication capabilities, all while paving the way for a digital-first world.

“Providing remote working capabilities to our customers has been a number one feature of most organisations since 2020.

“However, as businesses have grown and re-shaped over this time, we’ve been able to work closely with them, offering true scalability, improving their customer experience with the likes of interactive voice responses, integrations into their website, Facebook and even WhatsApp.”

DNS is now offering online and in-person consultations for Bondholders who need to update their phone lines ahead of the analogue line switch off.
